I still strongly feel they should have cancelled NBA games yesterday for Kobe Bryant Michael Jordan LeBron James Champion Hoodie the players after hearing the news about Kobe Bryant. And this wasn’t a ordinary passing this was a tragedy that involved his daughter and others as well. You have cameras zooming in all on their faces grieving and crying on TV was messed up too. It should have been player’s decision if they chose to play yesterday as it for they way to grieve through this. For those saying “It’s their job” or how Kobe would have wanted them to play is traumatizing to these players mental health which is what is wrong with the world and y’all clearly dont value. Mental health. Even coaches, announcers, and players said this is bigger than basketball and felt unready to do what they did yesterday after hearing about Kobe. It was like losing a family member to all of them. Yes Kobe would want them to play but getting them ready for the next day and rescheduling the games from yesterday for a different day wouldn’t have hurt. It’s was heartless forcing those to work even while mourning, and call it as something “inspiring” when they did play when forced. Y’all valued money and ratings over this.

As a die hard chicago bulls fan, in chicago, growing up amidst the height of the bulls dynasty in the ‘90s, there were some generalized unwritten rules which came along with that type of fandom. By design you could say we were basically bread to be anti detroit pistons, another to be anti los angeles lakers. you could not be one fan and be another. i won’t bore you here with all the reasons — some stemming from draft pick capabilities, to seemingly non-existent salary caps, to downright nba rivalry. you could appreciate magic johnson as a player, but it pretty much ended there.
A lot of that changed in the kobe bryant era. it was a really weird feeling, this cognitive dissonance, this intermittent crossover. but here’s a kid, coming out of high school into the league after being traded from the hornets, who essentially modelled his game from michael jordan (and did not hide it), and somebody you simply could not ignore. you almost could feel the second coming of jordan, it was unreal. inspiring. and infuriating just the same.
Fast forward years later, as a bulls fan you did not want to see him get that 5th ring. as a basketball fan, you wanted to see him thrive. every mvp, every all-star appearance, every pump fake pivot. He would play for a team that housed greats like kareem abdul-jabbar, but made a legacy all of his own, too. he was kobe. he didn’t have to be any other.
like any celebrity death which shakes the world, we are affected from afar by this tragedy, champion lebron kobe jordan sweatshirt, hoodie and you forget that this being’s human — leaving behind a wife, kids, family, friends. he might’ve had a list of errands he had been meaning to get to or friends he was planning on seeing “next time” just like us. and to sit and think of that is so incredibly heartbreaking… to not only leave this earth in that fashion, but to leave it along with a daughter, and then amongst others who were not only part of his mamba family, but people who are also cared about, loved, cherished. I think that’s why this affects so many, even those outside of us mourning the kobe legacy. because we can all imagine what those losses would be like or it makes us relive losses of our own. For all the fans who are in shock, grieving… that feeling is tenfold and some change for these families. Not to diminish the death of anyone else and their impact, just a simple fact. Here we are, in a post-kobe world.
With the sudden passing of Kobe Bean Bryant, I don’t want any one thinking that this is a prisoner of the moment type of take. I was going to post something about it the day after Lebron passed KB in points. But, the news of his passing was too much. I was not able to post anything. In the title I stated Lebron too but this will be focused on the Black Mamba. In the words of Robert Horry, It’s idiotic to judge a player’s greatness based off rings. Kobe Bryant much like Jordan set the standard of being a professional, an took it to a new level. The countless accolades and milestones are endless. His relentlessness and work ethic separated him from the pack. But what is it that makes him better than Jordan? Jordan has the legacy, that he has is still echoed today. But, Kobe’s will echo longer. Kobe not only changed how players work at the game, wither its incredible works out, or the Mamba mindset. Most importantly, HE GAVE BACK! He didn’t get out of the league and try to purchase a team, he didn’t try to get back on the court to get a piece of a team. He immediately went back and grabbed these guys by the ear and showed them the way. From teaching the pros in the off-season 1v1, to having a complete camp for basketball players, to having a complete academy for not just ball players but all athletes. I watched an interview of Kobe speaking of who his closets “disciples” are. He reply was Kyrie, he goes on to tell the story how he received a face-time call from Ky in the locker room immediately after they came back from a 3-1 deficit to come back and win. “Your advise worked, it worked!”. He even made headlines by stating “Their are women in the WNBA that could play in the NBA”. No one else would say such things. He coached kids, and emphasized how important it was to use sports to help the younger generation. I could go on and on with the Kobe Bryant Michael Jordan LeBron James Champion Hoodie he did on the court, including being the only player with 9 1st team all D selections. But, what this man gave not just the game, but the world! Puts him above Jordan. As Lebron finishes he will surpass Kobe as the best of all time.
