The other interest of this book, and its great originality, lies in the way the author shapes time: she gets the feeling of duration by making her writing mature as her hero grows. When he was a child, she chose childish writing, she expressed herself in clear and whole terms, and as he grew up, she complicated her thinking. She increases the analytical share in her story, because the analytical abilities of her hero (and his reader, if he grew up with it) have increased. So here we have a shaping of time that is without example in the history of children’s literature.
