Porky Lake

Overview

  • The Porky Lake property covers approximately 13,000 hectares of the Sokoman iron formation and is located 50 kilometres northeast of Schefferville, Quebec.
  • Historic reports by Iron Ore of Canada (IOC) noted the Porky Lake properties contain abundant dark-blue heavy compact beds of hematite with no visible silica. There are two hematite beds about 90 metres thick with areas of over 30 metres of near-massive continuous blue hematite. Samples taken by IOC in 1954 averaged 56 per cent iron and 19 per cent insoluble. The hematite iron mineralization is fairly continuous over the entire 50-kilometre strike length.

Exploration

  • 2011 - Field reconnaissance program returned encouraging results from surface including PR8, 1.2m of blue dense hematite grading 62.65 with samples taken over 750m.
  • 2012 - The hematite horizon is mostly covered with overburden. Drilling program is required to test the extent of the hematite mineralization
